Meet Sarah Rae, Teddington Parish's ordinand.

What is an ordinand?

It is someone training to be a priest.

What’s involved?

Lots of learning. Each week, I join the Clergy at the altar and act as subdeacon. I also have to preach occasionally – which is scary. I’ll soon be heading up a newly invigorated pastoral team, and I continue to be involved in the Community Café, church courses, and our mid-week Toddler Service.

Do you study as you train?

Yes, I’m studying part-time for a theology, mission, and ministry degree at Cuddesdon, near Oxford.

Why now?

Well, if someone had told me six years ago I’d be where I am now I would have thought they were joking but that’s when I started to feel God calling me and I’ve
been working things out ever since.

What’s your favourite bible verse?

I have a few, but a favourite short one is: ..“and remember I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matt. 28:20)

And your favourite book in the Bible?

Can I have two? Psalms and Luke.

What about time off?

I have another job two days a week, I also run (very slowly) and swim, watch TV and read. I’m married to Ian and we have two grown-up children.
