Joe Moffat: "I’ve just spent three days visiting Auschwitz with a large group of clergy, led by the Archbishop of Canterbury.  It was very cold (-10). But even more chilling were the things we saw and the stories we heard.  The horror of such mass murder, planned and executed on such an industrial scale with such clinical efficiency and brutality is hard to take in, yet alone comprehend. 1.3 million people, just at Auschwitz. That it was overseen by ordinary SS officers, who in many ways were just normal well-educated human beings, is perhaps the most terrible thought of all.  How vigilant we need to be, to ensure that such an evil ideology doesn’t take hold again.

"Further reflections to come.  But here’s a link to the archbishop’s reflections, which probably sum up what most of us were thinking."
